DETAILS:

Lost in Frenchlation and the London International Documentary Festival are bringing the hugely acclaimed ‘Lumiere!’ (with English subtitles) to the international community of Paris on Friday 31 March! Directed and commented by Cannes artistic director Thierry Fremaux, this insightful documentary which takes you to where cinema all began and reveals the monumental impact of the Lumiere brothers is not to be missed!

‘Anyone interested in the history of cinema and the power of the filmed image should watch ‘Lumiere!’… It’s an altogether engrossing crash course in the birth of movies, and if Fremaux makes anything clear in his survey, it’s that the Lumieres were not only cinema pioneers — they were perhaps the first auteurs’.
– Hollywood Reporter

The screening will take place at the amazing Studio 28 in the heart of Montmartre – Paris’ oldest cinema room which is also one of the city’s most iconic. Join us from 8pm for a film-themed cocktail available from the bar (€4.50, or €6.00 with a packet of popcorn) before the screening starts at 9:15pm. Tickets available on the door only – please arrive early to avoid disappointment!

‘In 1895, Louis and Auguste Lumière invented the Cinématographe and shot some of the very first films in the history of moving pictures: Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory, Tables Turned on the Gardener… With their discovery of mise-en-scène, tracking shots and even special effects and remakes, they also invented the art of cinema itself! From among more than 1,400 of their films, Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival and the Institut Lumière, has selected 114: universally celebrated masterpieces or previously unknown golden discoveries, restored in 4K and assembled to celebrate the legacy of the Lumières.’
