In the summer of 2006, a non-violent, popular uprising exploded in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, triggered by a teachers strike in protest at the governments lack of funding for education. But the people of Oaxaca didn’t feel they were represented by any of the established media. So, rather than take their story to a media they didn’t trust, they simply took over the media themselves. 3,000 women occupied the local television station, and students, teachers and indigenous communities occupied the 14 radio channels, using them to organise and defend the emerging struggle for social justice.

The revolution, it seems, will be televised.

Tickets for the above feature give free entry to the A Bag of Shorts programme of short films, which will start at 5.15pm.
