A Story of People in War and Peace
Director: Vardan Hovhannisyan, 2006, Armenia, 69mins
Venue: Renoir Cinema

“My son had seen my old uniform hanging in the closet. He said to me ‘Daddy, are you a warrior?’ I didn’t know how to respond”. It was this moment that spurred cameraman Vardan Hovhannisyan to revisit the extensive footage he’d shot 12 years earlier during the Nagorno-Karabakh war, a bloody 6-year conflict that left 30,000 dead and a million displaced.
In an attempt to understand how the fighting had affected his life and the lives of others, he tracked down all the soldiers he’d fought with, to see how they had survived the war – and how they were surviving the peace.
Followed by panel-led discussion with director Vardan Hovhannisyan.
