The often lonely life of a competitive sporstman. The self-assured and phenomenally successful darts champion Eric Bristow is portrayed in this film as a modern-day gunslinger, moving from town to town, exhibition match to exhibition match, challenging the local heroes in the pubs and working men’s clubs of Britain. Influenced by one of Samson’s favourite film characters – Tully, the hero of John Huston’s 1972 film Fat City – this is far more than just a film about a sports celebrity, Arrows attests to the importance of sport’s collective experience to the British nation.
