The open Call for Films is now open, and submissions have begun to arrive at a steady rate. This is perhaps the most exciting time of the year as unheralded gems appear from all over the globe. The open call has the great advantage of allowing us to see what trends and preoccupations there are amongst documentary filmmakers this year. It is a snapshot in time. Every year fresh, shared, themes appear across continents; some themes, sadly, remain the same year in year out reinforcing the sense that the work of mending in the world in never finished. But, of course, each film and each filmmaker affirms that the work continues.
