Tricycle: Exclusive Preview of Only When I Dance
LIDF’s new partner venue The Tricycle in Kilburn has an exclusive preview of this compelling documentary from Brazil on Thurs 26 November, followed by a Q&A with director Beadie Finzi and Irlan Santos da Silvaahead, one of the dancers followed in the film.
Only When I Dance follows two young teenagers, one girl, one boy; both black and poor, and living in one of the most violent favelas on the outskirts of Rio. Irlan and Isabela both want to dance – to dance ballet and their ambition is to leave Brazil to join one of the great companies in the North. For them, dance is the way out, an escape, and on stage, an ecstasy, that is rarely found in their day to day lives.
See The Tricycle for more information, and join us again there for the first LIDF/Tricycle screening on Sunday 6 December – a last chance to catch LIDF09 favorite, Fidelity + Q&A.
