After graduating from the Camera Department of the Film School in Bucharest, Alexandru started making documentaries in 1993. His films are playful, and inventive, often mixing genres. They have been screened and and received awards at many festivals around Europe and the US.
In 2001, following participation in the Discovery Campus Masterschool Alexandru directed the ‘Great Communist Bank Robbery’. Since then he has directed a further 4 feature documentaries as well as producing and photographing numerous other films. The LIDF has featured two of his films in previous editions: ‘Cold Waves’ (2008) and ‘Apocalypse On Wheels’ (2009). We welcome him back to the festival this year as we screen his new documentary ‘Kapitalism – Our Improved Formula’.
Alexandru has been involved in researching, line-producing and putting together documentary co-productions in the UK, Canada, France and Germany. Former collaborations have been broadcasted by the BBC, Channel 4, Arte and CBC. He also teaches at the Film School in Bucharest and is a member of the European Documentary Network.
